What are PDO threads and cogs?
Polydioxanone (PDO) threads have been in use for many years in the medical field for the closure of wounds both externally and internally. The material is completely dissolvable over a period of time making it perfect for internal treatments.
After the application of anaesthetic, extremely fine needles containing the PDO threads are inserted under the skin to deliver an immediate lifting effect and stimulate the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid to further enhance the effects of the treatment.
Is the treatment painful?
PDO Thread treatment is not entirely pain free; however, we apply anaesthetic cream to reduce the discomfort and most people who have the treatment attest to the minimality of their discomfort.
How soon will I see results and how long will they last?
The results will, quite literally, be instantaneous and will last up to 2 years as the natural production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid increases, making this a truly long-lasting treatment. The threads themselves will dissolve over a short period of time.
Are there any side effects?
Some people may experience some swelling, redness and bruising as a consequence of the injections. This is usually not severe but can be in extreme cases and should return to normal relatively quickly.
What is the difference between Threads and 3D Cogs?
Quite simply threads are excellent for skin rejuvenation around the face and neck and 3D Cogs are targeted specifically at the lower face to lift sagging skin and jowls.
What about recovery and downtime?
Recovery from a PDO thread lift or 3D Cogs lift is minimal. You may have some swelling and bruising for the first 24 to 48 hours but you can return to most of your daily routines right away. You should avoid rubbing your face as much as possible the week after your procedure to avoid accidently dislodging the thread. Full aftercare will be advised. Please note RF or Ultrasound will dissolve the threads so please do not have these treatments for at least 6 months.
What results can I expect from a PDO thread-lift?
You should notice an immediate tightening up of sagging skin thanks to the scaffolding effect of the threads. These results will continue to improve over the coming months as tubes of collagen form around the threads. Your skin will appear firmer, and any lines will be minimised. How long do PDO Threads last?
Polydioxanone is used for biomedical applications, particularly in cardiothoracic surgery because it is fully absorbed by hydrolysis within 3 to 6 months. The foreign body stimulates collagen synthesis & the skin structure created should hold for between 1 to 2 years, depending on the initial structure of the skin and the body’s natural ageing process.
